Team Member: Hon. Lady Justice Hannah Okwengu, JA

Hon. Lady Justice Hannah Okwengu, has been a member and official of the IAWJ – Kenya Chapter (formerly Kenya Women Judges Association), for many years. She has served in various posts in the Executive Committee of the Association, including Treasurer, Vice Chair, and for the last four years as the President of the Association. She is also a Director of the International Association of Women Judges, a global organization to which IAWJ Kenya Chapter is affiliated.

She was admitted to the Bar in 1980 and practiced briefly before joining the Kenya Judiciary as a Resident Magistrate in 1983. She worked in the Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority as Assistant Director in charge of Prosecutions, a position to which she was seconded from the Judiciary for a period of 2 years. Judge Okwengu has moved through the ranks in the Judiciary and has since 2011, been serving as a Justice of Appeal in the Kenya Court of Appeal.

Judge Okwengu has also been a facilitator for the Judiciary and IAWJ Kenya Chapter. She was also the Chairperson of the Committee that developed a Criminal Procedure Bench Book for the Kenya Judiciary.

Hon. Lady Justice Hannah Okwengu is the immediate former president of the IAWJ – Kenya Chapter.
